CTEC Mock Trial Team Advances to State
Congratulations to the Career and Technical Education Center’s mock trial team on advancing to the state competition! The team competed in February in the semifinals and final rounds of Region 10’s Texas High School Mock Trial Competition sponsored by the Dallas Bar Association, winning both rounds to be named one of four co-champions. The team now moves on to the state championship competition scheduled for March 6-7. Congratulations also go to Samantha Lopez of the CTEC team and Maya Iyer of the Frisco High School team for winning two of the Region 10 Courtroom Artist Awards to also advance to the mock trial state competition next month.
BPA Students Score Big at Region, Move on to State
Hundreds of Frisco ISD students compete annually in BPA, one of the many career and technical student organizations offered in Frisco ISD — and this year, over 300 are headed to the state contest. Through Business Professionals of America, students prepare for careers in business by competing in exercises based on national standards. Over 1,075 students competed in the Area 1 Region 3 Regional Leadership Conference, the state-qualifying event. Best of luck to the 310 FISD students who will compete at the State Leadership Conference next month!
Winter Guards and Dance Teams Impress at District Showcases
Congratulations to the winter guards of Frisco ISD on a very successful Frisco Flag Night, as well as dancers on their awe-inspiring Dance Team Showoffs! Dozens of winter guards and dance teams from all 12 high schools performed their competitive shows from the winter season during the annual events this month. Crowds of friends, family, and District and campus leadership were impressed by the expressive, athletic routines, and the support shown by other schools. Well done, guards and dancers!
Centennial Students Compete in Business Championship
Centennial High School competed in the varsity division at the Baylor Sports Business Championship last month, sending three teams made up of Incubator and DECA students. Students competed in both team and individual events, showcasing their business, marketing and analytical skills at a high level. Teams earned second, sixth and 10th places, as well as $2,500 in prize money. Individual competitors earned $2,350 in prize money. Congratulations!
Minett Student-Run Magazine Featured in Frisco Style
The young writers, puzzle makers, illustrators and photographers who run Minett’s RISE Magazine were featured in the February edition of Frisco Style! Students and GT teacher Amy Grieser were interviewed about the publication, and Bright Academy and former Minett GT teacher Misty Lewin spoke about her inspiration for starting the Minett publication. Frisco Style visited students at work on the February and March issues in January, and came away impressed by Ms. Grieser’s work with the fourth graders, as well as their mature, organized work! Way to RISE, Minett!
Independence Junior Wins State American Legion Oratorical Contest
Anoushka Rai, a junior at Independence High School, won the state American Legion Oratorical Contest this month, advancing to the nationals and a chance to earn a $25,000 scholarship in May! Anoushka competed at state after winning the District and Division contests, and has accumulated over $4,000 in scholarships through the competitions. She was one of four scholarship winners of the Frisco Post 178 Oratorical contest in December, and at the state contest, represented herself, her family, school, community and Post 178 with a high degree of maturity and class that made everyone proud. Former Independence Student Ambassador Featured in Magazine
Sanjan Gangireddy, Independence High School Class of 2025, was featured in an article about Teen Safety Student Ambassadors for a recent issue of the Texas Association of School Boards’ magazine. The article, titled “Teen Safety Ambassadors: Building Leaders Through Student Voice,” highlights one of the Texas School Safety Center’s youth and community initiatives, where ambassadors serve as the youth voice for engaging their peers in school safety initiatives. Sanjan represented Frisco ISD as a member of the first cohort, and he participated in a panel discussion at the Texas School Safety Center’s conference last year. Read the story.
