Board Approves 2026-27 Academic Calendar

The Frisco ISD Board of Trustees has approved the 2026-27 academic calendar, including an earlier last day of school.

The calendar was developed by the 2026-27 Calendar Committee, which included 10 staff members, eight parents and community members, and eight students from the District Advisory Council. It was presented by committee members at the November Board meeting; access the presentation.

In designing the calendar, committee members weighed feedback from 8,400 parents and nearly 3,200 district staff provided in a September survey.

Calendar considerations

A number of factors were considered for the proposed calendar, including:

  • State requirements on instruction minutes and bad weather make-up days.

  • School breaks aligning with neighboring districts.

  • Timing of graduation ceremonies in deciding the last day of school.

  • Teacher preferences for the first day of school on a Wednesday or Thursday.

Another major consideration was the PGA Championship, which will bring in 30,000 people per day to Frisco in May 2027. In coordination with the city of Frisco and the Frisco Police and Fire Departments, and in light of the significant transportation and crowding issues, Frisco ISD will end the school year one week earlier than normal.

New school hours

To accommodate the shorter year and meet state standards for instruction minutes, school hours will change. Five minutes will be added to the end of the day for all grades.

  • 7:45 a.m.-3:10 p.m. for elementary schools

  • 8:25 a.m.-3:50 p.m. for middle schools (including Wortham Intermediate)

  • 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for high schools

The additional five minutes will remain past 2026-27 because of state assessment requirements that will take effect in the 2027-28 year.

The first day of school will be Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026; the last day of school will be Friday, May 14, 2027. Bad weather make-up days are Friday, March 26, 2027, and Friday, April 16, 2027.

There will be no school for students on the following days:

  • Sept. 7-8

  • Oct. 9

  • Oct. 12-13

  • Nov. 23-27 (Thanksgiving break)

  • Dec. 21-Jan. 4 (winter break)

  • Jan. 18

  • Feb. 12

  • Feb. 15

  • March 15-19 (spring break)

  • April 30

  • March 26 (bad weather make-up day)

  • April 16 (bad weather make-up day)
