Staff, students, parents and community members selected to serve on District committees for the 2026-27 school year were notified this week following approval by the Board of Trustees at its regular September meeting. Each committee is part of the larger District Advisory Council, which provides feedback to the Board on District initiatives, goals, programs and compliance-related matters. The District is grateful for everyone who volunteered their time and interest to serve.
Calendar Committee: As work begins on the 2027-28 instructional calendar, Frisco ISD is first soliciting stakeholder feedback to guide the District’s calendar committee. The 2027-28 Instructional Calendar Survey is open Sept. 17-Oct. 2. Access the survey.
Bond Planning Committee: FISD is exploring a possible spring 2027 bond, starting with formation of a Bond Planning Committee. Applications are open through Friday, Sept. 25. Apply online.

Three Frisco ISD middle schoolers recently earned a Certificate of Excellence Award and $500 prize in the National Discovery Competition organized by the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes. Congratulations to Saketh Chatrathi (Pioneer Heritage), Viraj Devgun (Pearson) and Shruti Sundar (Pearson). Learn more about the awards.
Santosh Patapati, a senior at Panther Creek High School, earned an individual bronze medal and a sixth place finish with Team USA at the 2026 International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence this summer in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Congratulations to Alexis Popelar, a fifth grade teacher at Talley Elementary School, on receiving a donation from the College Football Playoff Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers program! Alexis requested items to encourage students to participate in cooperative play to help build communication, creativity and teamwork skills, and Extra Yard for Teachers delivered, gifting her with games and sets that will provide hands-on learning opportunities. An 11-year educator, Alexis has been part of the Talley community for five years.
The engineering program at the Career and Technical Education Center collaborated last school year with Texas A&M University, and their work has been featured by the university! Texas A&M professor Edgar J. Rojas-Muñoz connected with Forrest Medcalf, CTE Center engineering teacher, to introduce his VirtuHS virtual reality program to students, who then used the program to identify classroom needs and create VR-based solutions. CTEC engineering, computer science and game design students met virtually with Rojas-Muñoz and one of his Ph.D. students all school year, and in March, they had the chance to visit the university to present their projects. The Frisco ISD Cattle Show Team had an outstanding showing at the Labor Day Blowout Show, hosted by Allen FFA. All Cattle Show Team competitors represented Frisco ISD with skill and hard work, and their success is a reflection of the time, dedication and commitment they put into raising and exhibiting their livestock. Applications are open now for FISD Insight, a comprehensive, behind-the-scenes look at Frisco ISD operations. Members of each FISD Insight class come away with a complete understanding of the District, from academics and fine arts to transportation and technology and more. They will hear from department leaders as well as current Frisco ISD students, and have a chance to ask questions. Classes, which are held once or twice a month, will be hosted at various District facilities.
Membership: Applicants must live within Frisco ISD boundaries, and must not be prior participants. Only one adult per household.
Cost: $20, collected at the first class

Three Frisco ISD schools were recognized at the August School Board meeting for their generous donations to Frisco Family Services! Over 43,000 pounds of food representing over 36,000 meals were donated across all Frisco ISD campuses last school year, with Wakeland High School (7,050 pounds), Isbell Elementary School (2,095 pounds) and McSpedden Elementary School (1,834 pounds) as the top donors.
Current Frisco ISD students and recent graduates marched drum corps this summer, using skills developed in Frisco ISD band programs in auditions and on the competition field.

Six Frisco ISD students in May earned the Girl Scouts Gold Award, the organization’s highest recognition. Congratulations to Maggie Cooley (Independence), Ishika Grandhi (Independence), Aleena Sohani (Lebanon Trail), Kensli Espadron (Lone Star), Ruhi Ladwa (Reedy) and Eshal Muhammad (Frisco).
Spears Elementary teacher Carter Forsong, a 17-year educator and Frisco High School graduate, recently received an alumni spotlight from UT Dallas athletics! In the feature, Carter shared lessons she learned as a softball player at UTD that also apply now in the classroom. Carter is a published author, as well, and her book, “That’s Not Fair!”, began as a class assignment at UTD. As part of the spotlight, Carter received a visit from UTD athletic director Angela Marin, who presented her with backpacks stuffed with supplies for her classroom. Congratulations, Carter!
The Frisco ISD Book Bus wrapped up a busy summer schedule this month, bringing literacy fun to every corner of the District starting just days after its June completion. To give a sense of the impact, the Library and Technology Services Department shared a few impressive numbers:

14 - Stops made this summer

Utsav Sunil Kumar, a junior at Heritage High School, was among five students selected to represent the U.S. at the 2026 International Economics Olympiad in Shenzhen, China. The team placed sixth among 52 delegations in the Business Case competition, and Utsav was selected as an IEOx Youth Talks finalist and invited speaker.
Heritage High School senior Omya Tomar earned Girl Scouts' highest recognition, a Gold Award, last spring. She is a member of Troop 2245.
Congratulations to Frisco ISD agriculture students Reese and Griffin Dodson on a very accomplished summer break! Griffin and Reese, both members of the FISD Heifer Show Team, competed at the Texas Junior Simmental Simbrah Association State Futurity in Bryan, with Reese placing second in Cattle Skillathon and seventh overall Junior, and Griffin placing second in Public Speaking and seventh overall Intermediate. At July’s American Junior Simmental National competition in Nebraska, Reese's heifer Daisy earned honors as the third overall Bred and Owned Simbrah Heifer. Also last month, Griffin was elected to the Texas Junior Simmental Simbrah Association Executive Board and will serve as the 2026-27 secretary. Griffin is a Wakeland High School 10th grader, and Reese is a Griffin Middle School seventh grader. Way to represent FISD, Reese and Griffin!
As a reminder, HB 1481, which went into effect last school year, continues to prohibit the use of personal communication devices during the instructional day.
As we enter the new school year, please ensure your student’s devices are turned off and out of sight during the school day.

Congratulations to Jennifer Helm in the Athletics Department, who last week was honored with the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Heart of Athletics Award presented by Hometown. Helm has worked in Frisco ISD for 29 years and is a critical part of Athletics operations. Last year, Helm received a District Standing Ovation award.
