Artwork from four outstanding Frisco ISD students will be displayed at the 2026 txEDCON Exhibition this month in Houston. The exhibition, presented by Texas Art Education Association's Youth Art Month Program, showcases pre-K through 12th grade student works of art from across the state of Texas. TAEA provides students several opportunities to showcase their work, through TEAM, Junior VASE and VASE assessments. Congratulations to these artists and their teachers!

Christi Schettler, music teacher at Corbell Elementary School, has been honored as North Texas Performing Arts’ 2026 Distinguished Elementary Performing Arts Educator. Christi — a 23-year educator who has been at Corbell since it opened in 2006 — was honored for going “above and beyond” to provide a meaningful and impactful performing arts educational experience for her students. “I am deeply honored to be named NTPA's 2026 Distinguished Elementary Performing Arts Educator,” Christi said. “Over the years, I have been blessed to share the joy of making music with every one of the thousands of children who have been part of our Corbell community. Helping them grow in confidence, creativity, self-expression, and a genuine love of music has been one of the greatest joys of my life.” She will be recognized at the NTPA Stardust Awards in November. Congratulations, Christi!

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month!

National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM), launched in October 2004, continues to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity across our Nation and helps ensure that individuals, families, schools, and communities have resources they need to be safer and more secure online. The overarching theme for Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026 is “Securing the Next 250.” #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth

Congratulations to all the band students who auditioned for Frisco ISD’s third annual Middle School District Band! The audition process, which looks similar to All-Region and All-State auditions, is intended to increase focus on the development of individual musicianship. Over 900 students from across all FISD middle schools tried out, and 271 students made the band. Find a full list.

The Frisco ISD Book Bus is ready to hit the road in October, sharing literacy fun and free books with children from around the FISD area.

• When: Friday, Oct. 9 from 9-11 a.m.

Three Frisco ISD campuses celebrated AVID Day on Sept. 18 with dress-up days, activities and motivational messages. The program, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is offered to seventh and eighth graders at Hunt, and students at Frisco and Memorial high schools. Learn more.

• Frisco High School expanded AVID Day to a full week with daily announcements about AVID, team-building exercises and calls to action, like: “Today, think about one challenge you're facing and ask yourself: ‘What is one thing I can do today to move forward?’” The week culminated in volunteer work, where Frisco and Hunt students made sandwiches with Tango Charities Feed the Country.

• At Hunt Middle School, AVID Day was combined with College, Career, and Future Ready Week, creating a weeklong experience. On AVID Day itself, students signed their 2026-27 AVID Student Agreement, committing to challenge themselves with their schoolwork, stay organized and actively participate.

• Memorial High School AVID students wore college T-shirts and held an ice cream social on AVID Day.

Staff, students, parents and community members selected to serve on District committees for the 2026-27 school year were notified this week following approval by the Board of Trustees at its regular September meeting. Each committee is part of the larger District Advisory Council, which provides feedback to the Board on District initiatives, goals, programs and compliance-related matters. The District is grateful for everyone who volunteered their time and interest to serve.

• Calendar Committee: As work begins on the 2027-28 instructional calendar, Frisco ISD is first soliciting stakeholder feedback to guide the District’s calendar committee. The 2027-28 Instructional Calendar Survey is open Sept. 17-Oct. 2. Access the survey.

• Bond Planning Committee: FISD is exploring a possible spring 2027 bond, starting with formation of a Bond Planning Committee. Applications are open through Friday, Sept. 25. Apply online.

• Three Frisco ISD middle schoolers recently earned a Certificate of Excellence Award and $500 prize in the National Discovery Competition organized by the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes. Congratulations to Saketh Chatrathi (Pioneer Heritage), Viraj Devgun (Pearson) and Shruti Sundar (Pearson). Learn more about the awards.

• Santosh Patapati, a senior at Panther Creek High School, earned an individual bronze medal and a sixth place finish with Team USA at the 2026 International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence this summer in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Congratulations to Alexis Popelar, a fifth grade teacher at Talley Elementary School, on receiving a donation from the College Football Playoff Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers program! Alexis requested items to encourage students to participate in cooperative play to help build communication, creativity and teamwork skills, and Extra Yard for Teachers delivered, gifting her with games and sets that will provide hands-on learning opportunities. An 11-year educator, Alexis has been part of the Talley community for five years.

The engineering program at the Career and Technical Education Center collaborated last school year with Texas A&M University, and their work has been featured by the university! Texas A&M professor Edgar J. Rojas-Muñoz connected with Forrest Medcalf, CTE Center engineering teacher, to introduce his VirtuHS virtual reality program to students, who then used the program to identify classroom needs and create VR-based solutions. CTEC engineering, computer science and game design students met virtually with Rojas-Muñoz and one of his Ph.D. students all school year, and in March, they had the chance to visit the university to present their projects. The Frisco ISD Cattle Show Team had an outstanding showing at the Labor Day Blowout Show, hosted by Allen FFA. All Cattle Show Team competitors represented Frisco ISD with skill and hard work, and their success is a reflection of the time, dedication and commitment they put into raising and exhibiting their livestock. Congratulations to the following students who earned recognition:

• Three Frisco ISD schools were recognized at the August School Board meeting for their generous donations to Frisco Family Services! Over 43,000 pounds of food representing over 36,000 meals were donated across all Frisco ISD campuses last school year, with Wakeland High School (7,050 pounds), Isbell Elementary School (2,095 pounds) and McSpedden Elementary School (1,834 pounds) as the top donors.

• Current Frisco ISD students and recent graduates marched drum corps this summer, using skills developed in Frisco ISD band programs in auditions and on the competition field.

• Six Frisco ISD students in May earned the Girl Scouts Gold Award, the organization’s highest recognition. Congratulations to Maggie Cooley (Independence), Ishika Grandhi (Independence), Aleena Sohani (Lebanon Trail), Kensli Espadron (Lone Star), Ruhi Ladwa (Reedy) and Eshal Muhammad (Frisco).

Spears Elementary teacher Carter Forsong, a 17-year educator and Frisco High School graduate, recently received an alumni spotlight from UT Dallas athletics! In the feature, Carter shared lessons she learned as a softball player at UTD that also apply now in the classroom. Carter is a published author, as well, and her book, “That’s Not Fair!”, began as a class assignment at UTD. As part of the spotlight, Carter received a visit from UTD athletic director Angela Marin, who presented her with backpacks stuffed with supplies for her classroom. Congratulations, Carter!

The Frisco ISD Book Bus wrapped up a busy summer schedule this month, bringing literacy fun to every corner of the District starting just days after its June completion. To give a sense of the impact, the Library and Technology Services Department shared a few impressive numbers:

• 1,322 - Books given away to children

• 100 - Miles traveled to book bus stops

• 14 - Stops made this summer

The Book Bus is gearing up for fall and will be ready to roll out an updated schedule soon. To find out when and where they will be, visit the Frisco ISD Book Bus webpage and follow along on Facebook and Instagram.

The Frisco ISD School Board is eager to hear from staff, students and community members, and there are a number of ways to share your feedback with Trustees. One method is by signing up to speak at Community Input Meetings, now scheduled for the 2026-27 school year:

• Oct. 5, 2026 - 6:30 p.m.

• Nov. 30, 2026 - 6:30 p.m.

• Feb. 22, 2027 - 6:30 p.m.

• April 26, 2027 - 6:30 p.m.

Meetings are held at the Frisco ISD Administration Building, and visitors should enter through the front doors.
